WILL You Take One of the New LIFE University Courses?

LIFE U Distressed Logo

LIFE Group Leaders, here are two things I want you to think about regarding the new Winter Term 2014 LIFE U classes:

1.  Do I want the people I lead to become disciplemakers?

2.  Do I need to get better at leading these people so they become disciplemakers?

I know none of you would answer “NO” to these questions.  So, if your answer is “YES,” what does that affirmation mean to you?  Is it simply a hollow agreement, or do you want to back it up with substantive action?

I believe each of you want to be “doers” and not just “hearers” and “sayers.”  So here are some “I WILL” statements to go along with your “YES” statements:

1.  I WILL ask my LIFE Group members to attend one of these courses: Christianity Explored, Discipleship Explored, Talking about Christ, or the World of Jesus. These will directly help them learn to become disciples and disciplemakers.

2. I WILL attend the Biblical Soul Care course. This will directly help you become a better shepherd and disciplemaker.

Jesus said, “We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.” (John 9:4)  We know what our calling is.  It is to reach the lost and make them into disciples who make disciples.  The time to do this is running short.  Night will fall.

What excuses do we really have then for not focusing all of our energies on disciplemaking and becoming more equipped at this central work of Christ’s mission (Matthew 28:19-20)?  I want to help you do what God has called you to do.  Please let me know what obstacles are in your way to attending one of these classes and asking your people to attend them.  I want to do whatever I can to help you overcome these obstacles.

Devoted to helping you hear your Master say to you one Day: “Well done, good and faithful servant!”:

LIFE Group Leaders: Next Phase for Soul Care Equipping

Welcome to this new site for Stonebridge Adult Ministry!  Anyone is welcome to visit this site to learn how we are striving to make disciples for Christ.  I hope it encourages you!  And if you attend Stonebridge or do not have a church home in Cedar Rapids, I hope it may influence you to get involved and take your next step closer to Jesus!

However, the main purpose is to provide a resource for the ongoing equipping of leaders and disciplemakers who serve in the various ministries at Stonebridge.  If you are one of these faithful servants, I hope you visit this site often and it helps you become an even more effective disciplemaker for the honor of your Lord!

[Note: some pages are still under construction.  Thanks for your patience]

LIFE Group Leaders:

It has been a very encouraging last few months in LIFE Group ministry at Stonebridge!  The majority of you have now taken the Uncommon Community trainings or have watched the DVDs of those sessions (note: if you have not, please contact trishay@stonebridgesite.com or me asap so we can help you become a better leader and disciplemaker of your group by viewing the trainings!)

Now that you have a better understanding of what it means to truly care for souls and disciple your people, I would like to help you make sure that knowledge gets put into practice.  If you are like me, you have probably had the experience of going to a conference and getting a binder full of great information only to see it sitting unused on your bookshelf for years to come!  We don’t want that to happen with this training on Soul Care in LIFE Groups!!

The Next Phase of Your Ongoing Leader Development

Over the next 6 months we will gradually revisit the main soul care ideas and tools of the training you just received.  (Note: Again, if you have not taken the training yet, you will need to do so as soon as possible to allow this 6 month equipping to have its maximum value for your leadership development.)  Every 6 weeks we will highlight one of the 4 keys to good soul care in LIFE Groups:  Connecting, Assessing, Responding and Caring.  We will practice these core competencies of soul care by zeroing in on the main tools we learned in the training and using them in our groups: the GPS, Covenant, Heart Tree, HRQ, CPR, SOS, and Care Plan tools.

Hands-on training

This is not a lecture training!  I am not asking you to come to more seminars.  You simply need to keep leading your group while gradually introducing these tools into the way you lead.  This is a hands-on training.  For the 6 weeks we are highlighting a tool you will use that tool in your Band of Brothers, Steel Magnolias or Mixed LIFE Groups in real time with my guidance.

Personal guidance

I have established this website to post the various tools and offer other resources and support.  We will also have a place for dialogue on the Table Project LIFE Groups page.  (Note: if you are not currently on the Table Project you will be sent an invite to join and be a part of the LIFE Group Leaders group).  I will also be available to you by phone and email to answer any questions you have.  I would also be happy to visit your group to observe your utilization of these tools and give you feedback.  The Bottom Line: God has gifted you and called you to lead His sheep.  I want to help you be the best shepherd you can be!  Please let me help you.

Be looking forward to emails inviting you to visit this website and join the Table Project group so you can be up to speed on which tool we will be focusing on and how to use it.

Thankful for your faithful service!
